The fact that you can choose a traditional
style radiator for home or office implies there are other choices and if you
have not looked at all the radiators online here you will be amazed at how many
period designs there are to choose from.
Traditional would depend on your age as
someone aged ninety or more would likely say that it would be one of those
large and heavy cast iron radiators still found in old stately homes.
The majority of people in their fifties and
sixties will remember the great boom in central heating systems that suddenly
occurred in the early seventies and will remember the flat panel white
radiator.
This was the only radiator available and it
has been going strong since. At that time if a householder was persuaded to buy
a central heating system for the average home that back then had relied on coal
and electric fires, they would not even have asked what
the radiators looked like. They just accepted whatever was delivered.
Today there are many designer radiators and
a great many suppliers and manufacturers to choose from. The emphasis here is
that if you are going to have radiators then why not make them fun, colourful
and interesting.
Some contemporary radiators look like
paintings on the wall and others like mirrors. Brilliant shiny Chrome and steel
as well as painted models all add to the look of a room.
If we assume the traditional radiators are those solid and heavy ones from the
thirties with such a weight they had to be supported by feet and not just
screwed to the wall, then these reproductions are also available.
If carrying out a complete house make-over
then do consider the central heating system. If it is old it will be far less
economic than the latest systems and old can also mean leaking or rusted joints
with debris in the system.
A whole new central heating system will not
only pay for itself in saved fuel charges over a few short years but will also
allow the opportunity to fit some beautifully crafted new radiators or even new
traditional radiators.
