A Buyer’s Guide to Towel Radiators

If you are thinking about buying a towel radiator for your bathroom, kitchen, or utility room, then this is the right article for you. Here, we are going to consider the various features and requirements that you should be looking for from your towel radiators.

From choosing the correct towel radiator valves, to choosing an adequate number of rungs, this guide will help you to make the best choices.

Heat Output

The first thing you need to look for is heat output. You need to make sure that the unit provides you with enough heat to keep the bathroom free from mould and mildew, as well as keeping your towels warm and dry.

There are online calculators that will tell you how much heat you require for the room (measured in BTU/h). All you need to do is provide details of the dimension of the room, whether there is double glazing, which room it is (i.e. the bathroom or kitchen) and how hot you like the room to feel.

Wall Space

Next, you need to make sure that you know how much space you have to mount the radiator. If you don’t, then you could end up buying a unit that is too big or too small for the room. Towel radiators are fantastic for small rooms, because they are usually more vertical than horizontal, so take up less useable space.

Radiator Valves

In general, there are two types of towel radiator valves:

1.Angled valves: these have a 90o angle and fit on water pipes that come up from the floor or straight out from the wall.

2.Straight valves: these fit on water pipes that already have the angle.

To work out which one you need, you will need to look at the pipes in the room and see whether they are straight (in which case they’ll need an angled valve) or cornered (in which case they’ll need a straight valve).
